Today’s track comes from the morass of my Bandcamp email folder. While I’ve long been familiar with Gizeh Records, mainly for their fine work releasing the music of Christine Ott and FOUDRE!, I have somehow managed to remain ignorant of the fact that label head Richard Knox is also an artist. Operating under various names, including A-Sun Amissa, Shield Patterns, and Of Thread And Mist, Knox explores sound and music in their most abstract forms, encompassing ambient, noise, and drone in equal measure.
Knox is in the midst of releasing an ambient trilogy called (Un)Yielding, with the second installment arriving today. No Light, the first of the two tracks, is a sublime, nearly static, sheet of sound that somehow seems to be arrowing through time itself, like the prow of an ice cutter in the Arctic.
Belying the title, it seems full of light, a creamy, textured surface that glints and gleams at times. Let this sonic sculpture occupy your space for 16 minutes, either in the background or with your full attention. I think you’ll find it earns its keep either way.
